1. Consistency on your desktop.
As with many programs is the case on your computer, the navigation bar starts on the left. As you know this concept already very well, we decided to follow this in our app as well.
2. The buttons are bundled together
Besides this, there’s also a benefit in putting some things together. Whilst you now have to discover a bit what’s behind the new buttons, you will see that some information is much more in place (like sort, grid size and layout) then it was before.
3. Consistency in the app.
Basically, there are now three different button sets you have to remember.
The button set of the grid and list pages.
- Behind the “New” button you will always find buttons to create new items, like dishes, recipes, albums,…
- Behind the “View” button, theres a series of options to optimise your viewing experience of the grid and list views. E.g. the ordering of your objects, or the size of the grid panels.
- The “Selection” button houses the possibilities available for when you select multiple items on your grid views
- Other buttons (in this case the “Stages” button, or the “Tools” button) that are more page specific, will appear behind these three fixed buttons.
- The search field remains working exactly the same as it did before.
The button set of the detail pages
- The “Back” button brings you to the page you were on before. It just got a whole lot smarter, as it now remembers better where you are.
- The “Edit” button speaks for itself and takes you to the edit page.
- The “Delete” button lets you delete the item you’re viewing. Don’t worry, it always asks for confirmation before it really deletes stuff.
- The “Export” button houses all the templates in word, pdf and excel together in one place.
- The “Share” button brings together all sharing options.
- Here too, other buttons (like “Tools”), are added at the back of the row.
The button set of the edit pages.
There’s only two buttons you need to know here:
- The “Back” button, that takes you back to the page you came from, but always asks you first if you want to save possible changes
- The “Save” button, which allows you to save and continue working on the information you’re entering.
Of course, sometimes we needed to divert from this, like on the image detail page, where information is organised in a different way and sometimes there’s a button you don’t want to have hidden behind a drop down, so we put it separately in the navigation bar, but overall, we believe you will love the new menu bar.
